As its core, Blitzkrieg involved the integrated use of mechanized units containing tanks, infantry, artillery and airpower. When combined, these assets had the devastating ability to swiftly pierce enemy lines and keep opponents off-balance. This innovative German strategy was first seen in the invasion of Poland in September 1939, and it also proved highly effective in the invasion of the Low Countries and France in 1940. Dragon has produced a novel set of 1/35 scale figures that will enable modelers to recreate an imaginary scene from this early period of the war.

The set contains four figures from the “Ghost Division.” This was the moniker given to Erwin Rommel’s 7th Panzer Division because of the speed with which it moved during the invasion of France, with even the German High Command unable to keep up with its progress. Three of the figures are tank crewmen and the remaining figure is an infantryman. The set permits the creation of two separate episodes. The first sees a lightly wounded tanker being escorted to safety by a comrade. Such a scene is not easy to engineer by oneself because of the complicated task of blending two figures, but Dragon provides the ideal solution after completing and tooling a highly demanding master. The second pair of figures features a tanker conversing with a soldier, and such is their versatility that they will easily assimilate into just about any diorama. The figures wear typical early-war uniform items like panzer berets from the 1940 Blitzkrieg era. Sharply molded and realistically sculpted, these German figures will contribute much to an interesting Blitzkrieg scene involving some of Dragon’s panzer kits.

Reproduction. Dragon 6654 - 1/35 Ghost Division Tank Crew (Blitzkrieg 1940)

Blitzkrieg (“Lightning War”) was a term used to describe the new form of warfare that Germany unleashed on its unprepared foes at the start of WWII.

The figures wear typical early-war uniform items like panzer berets from the 1940 Blitzkrieg era. Sharply molded and realistically sculpted, these German figures will contribute much to an interesting Blitzkrieg scene involving some of Dragon’s panzer kits.
