It was intended to clear the way for a bomber force by cutting the tether cables of barrage balloons. The specific equipment involved a front-mounted fender terminating at the wingtips, with a cable-cutting device installed at each end. The apparatus weighed a total of 380kg, requiring a further 60kg counterweight to be fitted in the tail.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDragon has launched an impressive scale model of this particular aircraft. It is based on Dragon’s highly successful Ju88 1\/48 series of kits, so quality and accuracy are ensured. The new balloon cutting device has been reproduced in photo-etched parts so that the thin frame is truly produced to scale and is accurately proportioned. Not only does it feature the fender and cutting devices, but a whole range of other photo-etched components provide upgraded detail. Some of these have even been pre-painted for the added convenience of modelers. On the original aircraft, the extra weight and drag caused the Ju88A-6 to be slow and sluggish, thus making it an easy target. They were soon withdrawn and converted back to standard bombers.
